“Therefore whenever you give a gift to the needy, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and the streets, in order that they may be seen of men; truly I say to you, they have received their reward” (v. 2). The book of Job points clearly to the hypocrite’s sin: he forgets that God is watching (Job 8:13).
